In our courses, we prepare students of teacher training and rehabilitation education for their special or rehabilitation education work in the school context. We impart well-founded pedagogical, psychological and social science knowledge as well as basic competences for the diagnosis, support, education and upbringing of pupils with learning disabilities.

The focus of the content can be assigned to the following topics:

The module introduces basic terminology and framework conditions related to the special educational need for learning (e.g. learning difficulties, learning disorders, learning disabilities, factors outside of school, specific teaching-learning formats). Special features of the learning focus and learning difficulties in the areas of German and mathematics are discussed, as well as general school law regulations, the training regulations for special needs education (AO-SF), concrete concepts of educational support and models of prevention and intervention.

The module focuses on heterogeneity dimensions of learning groups and thus different levels, forms and strategies of differentiation and support possibilities. Teaching and learning methods - also supported by digital tools - are presented and applied and considered against the background of their possibilities and limitations for support in special schools and in mainstream schools within the framework of shared learning on the basis of empirical evidence.

This module includes a course on planning and evaluating individual support in the learning specialisation and one course each on diagnosis and intervention in the areas of German and mathematics. In addition, one elective course from four overarching subject areas must be taken:

  •     Counselling and supervision (e.g. interviewing)
  •     Cooperation and teamwork (e.g. collegial case consultation)
  •     Concepts and models of inclusion and participation
  •     School and organisational development.

Within the framework of this module, students should, on the one hand, get to know specific concepts and methods of support in selected learning areas, reflect on them and develop didactic-methodical procedures for support. On the other hand, approaches and concepts of career choice orientation as well as career and everyday life preparation are addressed. Furthermore, courses designed in the sense of research-based learning offer students the opportunity to deal with data collection and evaluation methods of empirical classroom research and to critically reflect on them.

In addition, external teaching assignments and adjunct lecturers enrich our teaching programme every semester and support us in ensuring that our teaching is up-to-date and closely oriented to school practice.
